Sacramento County Agrees to Pay $500 to Settle Tort Claim

In August of 2006, the County of Sacramento agreed to settle a tort claim brought by a prisoner who alleged that he was assaulted by a guard at the Sacramento County Main Jail. The terms of the settlement require the County to pay the prisoner $500, and waive $4,502.04 the prisoner owed the county.

Ell Jones alleged that a guard at the jail grabbed him, threw him against the wall, swiped his feet out from under him, slammed him to the floor and then handcuffed him. Jones alleged that the attack was unprovoked, and that his head and neck were injured during the incident. Jones represented himself in the case.
